Garden Studio, Ayrshire

Initial Enquiry

We were contacted by a family looking for a garden room to provide extra living space as well as a comfortable, warm space to double as a studio. We arranged a site visit to discuss the best options for the garden and to get a better idea of the requirements.

The clients had a good idea of what they wanted and had created some illustrations based on our Macdui range.

Proposal Ima

Armed with the clients sketches and additional information, we got to work coming up with some basic concepts to suit the garden layout. The studio was based on our Macdui building at a bespoke size to fit nicely into the designated space. We added a full height window on the side of the garden room to open the room up to the garden and allow more natural light in.

  • Remote control operated LED external down-lights on overhang

  • Siberian Larch Cladding

  • 1.5KW Oil filled electric radiator

  • UPVC patio door and fixed window in Anthracite grey (RAL 7016)

  • 90mm rigid polyurethane insulation throughout

  • EPDM rubber membrane roof

On-Site Arrival

When we arrive on site, the clients had carried out a considerable amount of landscaping including a retaining wall and levelling the site. We installed the adjustable pad foundations and got to work assembling the prefabricated panels to form the main structure of the garden room.

The prefabricated panels were then assembled prior to fitting the rigid insulation throughout.

Larch Cladding

This build was finished in Siberian Larch cladding which was supplied in a “hidden nail” profile to give a clean, uniform appearance. We go to great lengths to ensure the cladding boards tie in with features such as window openings and overhangs. In order to slow down the natural weathering effect on the cladding we gave the full building two coats of Osmo UV Protection Oil before fixing the boards with A2 stainless steel screws.

Internally, this room was finished in white painted walls with a light oak veneered laminate floor and oak veneered skirting boards. Six ceiling spotlights provide ample light whilst a 1.5KW oil filled electric radiator with remote control takes care of heating.
